Volkswagen Launches Full Hybrid Versions for Golf and T-Roc
Volkswagen has taken a significant step forward in hybrid technology by launching pre-sales for the new full hybrid versions of its popular Golf and T-Roc models in Germany. These models are designed to offer an eco-friendly driving experience without the need for external charging, appealing to drivers who value both efficiency and convenience.
The new full hybrid variants are powered by a 125 kW (170 PS) system that enables frequent electric driving in everyday scenarios. This makes them ideal for urban environments where low noise and emissions are a priority. The Golf Hybrid is available starting at €41,400 with the R-Line specification, while the T-Roc Hybrid in the Style trim begins at €44,470.
Innovative Hybrid Technology
The hybrid system at the heart of these models is noteworthy for its ability to operate without reliance on traditional charging infrastructure. Instead, it utilizes a combination of a turbocharged petrol engine and a generator, coupled with a 1.6 kWh high-voltage battery. This setup allows the vehicle to recover energy through recuperation, storing it in the battery integrated into the vehicle's floor at the rear.
This innovative drive system includes three distinct operating modes, each automatically selected based on driving conditions. The propulsion mode relies solely on the electric motor for low-speed driving, while the serial drive mode combines the electric motor with a generator powered by the petrol engine to extend electric range. The parallel drive mode engages both the petrol engine and electric motor, particularly at higher speeds on highways, providing an additional boost during acceleration.
Driving Profiles and Performance
Drivers can choose from three driving profiles: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. The Eco profile limits the system's output to 70% and disables the boost function to optimize energy consumption. The Comfort profile allows for full system output and boosting, providing a balanced driving experience. In the Sport profile, the system transitions more quickly to serial mode, ensuring maximum power is readily available.
The performance of these hybrids is commendable, with the system delivering 125 kW of power and a torque of 309 Nm. This setup enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, offering a spirited driving experience.
