Renault Duster Achieves 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating
Renault India is celebrating a significant milestone as the all-new Renault Duster secures a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). This achievement marks the Duster as the 31st vehicle in India to attain such a prestigious safety rating, underscoring Renault’s commitment to safety in the competitive Indian automotive market.
The Duster, a popular compact SUV, achieved an impressive score of 30.49 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). These scores place the Duster among the top performers in its segment, highlighting the SUV's robust safety features and structural integrity.
Outstanding Safety Features
The Renault Duster's safety credentials are further reinforced by its performance in various crash tests. It scored 14.49 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a perfect 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. Additionally, the side pole impact test was marked as "OK," showcasing the vehicle's comprehensive safety engineering.
Renault has equipped the Duster with a myriad of safety features as standard across all variants. These include six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. The SUV also incorporates 17 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking, enhancing both active and passive safety measures.
Focus on Child Safety
Child safety is a critical aspect of the Duster's design, evidenced by its high score in Child Occupant Protection. The SUV scored the maximum 24 points in the dynamic crash testing and full marks in the child restraint system installation assessment. The presence of ISOFIX mounts on outboard rear seats ensures that child seats are securely fastened, offering parents peace of mind.
Variants and Engineering Excellence
The Bharat NCAP rating applies to multiple variants of the Duster, including the Evolution (1.3L MT), Techno (1.3L DCT), and Iconic (1.3L MT) trims. These variants reflect Renault’s strategy to offer a blend of performance and safety, without compromising on fuel efficiency or driving comfort.
"With this latest achievement, the Duster now also makes a compelling case for rational buyers combining one of the best fuel efficiency figures in the segment with a 5-star BNCAP safety rating for adult and child occupant protection,"
Francisco Hidalgo-Marques, VP, Sales & Marketing, Renault Group India
According to V Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, India, the Duster's top-notch safety performance is the result of rigorous engineering and testing. "The Duster was subjected to extensive simulations, physical crash tests, and system-level validations, with a strong focus on real-world Indian driving conditions," he stated. This holistic approach ensures that every aspect of the vehicle, from body structure performance to electronic safety systems, works together seamlessly to protect occupants.
Impact on Indian Automotive Market
The Duster's 5-star rating is part of a larger trend in the Indian automotive industry, where safety has become a pivotal aspect of car manufacturing and consumer purchasing decisions. With 31 out of 34 cars tested under Bharat NCAP achieving a full 5-star rating, manufacturers are clearly prioritizing safety across all vehicle segments, reflecting a shift towards safer vehicles in India.
As competition in the mid-size SUV segment intensifies, the Duster’s standing among the top 15 safest cars in India could significantly bolster its appeal among safety-conscious buyers. This achievement not only boosts Renault's brand image but also sets a benchmark for safety in the Indian market.
With its proven safety credentials, robust design, and advanced features, the Renault Duster is well-positioned to capture the attention of Indian consumers seeking a reliable, safe, and efficient SUV. This latest accolade is likely to enhance its market presence and drive sales in the competitive Indian automotive landscape.
