In a significant move to bolster India's manufacturing sector and align with the government's Skill India mission, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has inaugurated an Advanced Manufacturing Lab (AML) at the Government ITI, Hassangarh in Rohtak. This initiative is part of Maruti Suzuki's comprehensive CSR-led skill development programme aimed at equipping students with industry-relevant skills and preparing a future-ready workforce.

The Advanced Manufacturing Lab at ITI Hassangarh is designed to mirror real-world shop-floor environments, offering students a hands-on learning experience in critical areas of automobile manufacturing. These areas include assembly, welding, painting, machining, mechatronics, and safety. The initiative is set to train approximately 200 students in its first year, significantly enhancing their technical competence and employability.

The lab's inauguration was graced by distinguished guests, including Mr. Sachin Gupta, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, alongside senior officials from Maruti Suzuki and the institute. The event underscored the importance of the lab in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry requirements.

Through the Advanced Manufacturing Lab at Hassangarh, we are bringing real shop-floor learning and modern machinery into classrooms. This initiative, aligned with the Skill India mission, equips students with confidence to handle industry-specific processes and nurtures talent for the evolving automotive ecosystem.

Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited

The establishment of this lab signifies a crucial step in Rohtak's development as a center of excellence in skill development. Mr. Sachin Gupta highlighted that the lab would play a pivotal role in nurturing a culture of innovation, productivity, and technical excellence, which aligns with the vision of "Viksit Bharat." By introducing industry-grade infrastructure and advanced manufacturing technologies, Maruti Suzuki has created an ecosystem that not only enhances employability but also strengthens India's competitiveness in the global manufacturing landscape.

Maruti Suzuki's commitment to skill development extends beyond the lab at ITI Hassangarh. The company supports 31 ITIs across India, focusing on manufacturing-related trades. It has also established 18 state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Labs nationwide, designed to bridge the educational gap with practical industry training. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki offers merit-based scholarships to the top five students at each ITI, encouraging academic excellence and motivation among students.

The company's initiatives are further bolstered by the operation of four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs), which were established as part of a collaborative effort between the Governments of India and Japan. Located at Mehsana and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, and Manesar and Sonipat in Haryana, these institutes provide students with comprehensive training in advanced manufacturing techniques and shop-floor management practices rooted in Japanese manufacturing principles. This includes soft skills necessary for making students industry-ready.

During the inauguration event at ITI Hassangarh, offer letters were distributed to selected students who will join Maruti Suzuki as apprentices after completing their courses. This not only provides students with immediate employment opportunities but also ensures that the skills they acquire are directly applicable to their future roles in the industry.

Maruti Suzuki's initiatives reflect a deep commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of supporting India's industrial transformation. By investing in education and training, the company not only enhances its own talent pool but also contributes significantly to the nation's economic development. The Advanced Manufacturing Lab at ITI Hassangarh is a testament to this forward-thinking approach, setting a benchmark for industry-academia collaboration in skill development.
