Kia Seltos Sets New Safety Benchmark with 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating
Kia Seltos has set a new standard in automotive safety with its latest achievement—a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, underscoring its commitment to occupant protection. With near-perfect scores in both adult and child occupant protection, the Seltos emerges as one of the safest internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles on Indian roads.
Stellar Safety Scores
The Kia Seltos achieved an impressive score of 31.70 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), making it the highest-scoring ICE vehicle tested under Bharat NCAP to date. This includes a near-perfect 15.70 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a flawless 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The SUV also successfully passed the side pole impact test, reinforcing its robust structural integrity.
In terms of Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Seltos scored 45 out of 49. This includes full marks in dynamic performance and child restraint system (CRS) installation, with a score of 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. These results highlight the SUV's strong compatibility with child safety systems, further supported by ISOFIX mounts provided on the rear outboard seats.
Advanced Safety Features
The comprehensive safety package of the Kia Seltos includes multiple airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters, electronic stability control (ESC), and side curtain airbags as standard across all variants. Additional safety aids such as seatbelt reminders for all passengers and pedestrian protection systems enhance overall safety. However, certain airbags, like knee airbags, are not included in the package.
The updated Seltos is built on Kia's advanced K3 platform, which has significantly contributed to its excellent safety performance. This platform incorporates high-strength steel and reinforced hot-stamped components, designed to improve crash energy absorption and distribution, thereby ensuring better protection for occupants.
Market Impact and Sales Performance
Since the launch of the updated model, Kia Seltos has consistently recorded robust sales figures, crossing 10,000 units per month. This reflects the SUV's strong market demand, driven by its blend of stylish design, advanced features, and now, top-tier safety credentials. With its latest Bharat NCAP rating, the Seltos not only solidifies its market position but also sets a new benchmark for ICE vehicle safety in India.
Mr. Gwanggu Lee, MD and CEO of Kia India, emphasized the brand's commitment to safety, stating, "Safety is an integral part of Kia’s product philosophy as we continue our journey towards becoming one of the most trusted mobility brands in India. The All-New Kia Seltos achieving a 5-star rating, along with the highest-ever Adult Occupant Protection score across ICE vehicles under BNCAP, is a strong validation of our engineering capabilities."
Looking Forward
With these outstanding safety results, the Kia Seltos is well-positioned to drive Kia India's growth in the competitive midsize SUV segment. The car's advanced safety architecture, combined with its enhanced cabin refinement and expanded digital interfaces, makes it a compelling choice for families prioritizing safety and comfort.
As safety becomes an increasingly important factor for buyers, the Seltos' achievements in the Bharat NCAP tests highlight Kia's dedication to integrating globally benchmarked safety standards into its vehicles. This focus on safety, alongside continuous innovation in design and technology, ensures that the Seltos remains a strong contender in the Indian automotive market.
